Locally Produced Hardwood Flooring
Certified Sustainable Maple | Cherry | Red Oak
Barrett Brothers Flooring is situated on a ninety acre tract of land in southwestern Massachusetts, in the small town of Egremont. This land was purchased in 1922 by William Felton Barrett, grandfather of the current owners.
In 1927 Mr. Barrett planted a portion of this land with red and white pine seedlings. These trees now tower over much of the site where William F. (“Bill”) Barrett, Jr. built a small diesel-powered sawmill in 1971.
Today, two of Bill’s sons, William F. (“Will”) Barrett III and Peter Barrett (shown in photo at left) operate Green River Lumber Incorporated, Doing Business as Barrett Brothers Flooring, which they incorporated in 1974. The original sawmill was sold in 1974 to make room for a modern sawmill. In 1978 a dehumidification dry kiln was added to the operation.
In the early 1980’s the Barrett Brothers began to look for ways to increase the value of some of the lower grades of hardwoods that they were producing. The hardwood flooring business seemed a logical place to start, and since 1983, their attention has been focused exclusively on the flooring business.
The Barrett Brothers have built a solid reputation in the flooring industry by providing carefully milled and graded Northern Red Oak, Northern Hard Maple, American Cherry hardwood flooring to homes all over the world.
Our plans for the future are to continue to build upon this reputation for providing quality products to our customers. Our personal involvement and service will always be a big part of our future. As we grow, you can count on us to stick by our small company ideals, and to provide our customers with finest hardwood flooring from durable native Eastern hardwoods.
